KNOW BEFORE YOU GO
Bordered to the north by Tuscany and to the east by Umbria, Giulione sits overlooking the hills of Tuscany on the border of Tuscany and Lazio's 'Alta Tuscia' a land of gently rolling countryside, volcanic craters that gave rise to the beautiful lakes of Bolsena and Vico and the must see medieval towns of Civita di Bagnoregio, Orvieto and Tarquinia, to name but a few.
Within about 30 minutes drive, the lake of Bolsena provides beaches for lazing or picnics, a wide range of water sports, spectacular scenery, and three thriving little towns Bolsena, Marta and Capodimonte. Bolsena, on the northern shore, has a museum, a medieval castle, picturesque alleys and two early churches. Marta and Capodimonte, on the southern shores, are pretty towns with beaches and from where you can take boat trips. To the south is Viterbo, with its papal palace from the middle ages, and the Tarquinian necropolis. To the west, Sorano and Pitigliano, of medieval importance and interest, are picturesquely striking up on their hills. For gastronomic delights you are offered the chance to sample the local specialities: various lake fish in the villages around lake Bolsena, mushrooms at Vetralla, chestnuts at Soriano al Cimino, beef steak at Monteromano, wine at Montefiascone and many, many more!
The nearest village with basic food shop and a little restaurant is 2.5km and the medieval village of Proceno with a good selection of small specialist shops and a restaurant, is at 7kms. The larger towns of San Casciano dei Bagni with its famous Fonteverde Spa and Aquapendente with all shops and facilities are within 10 and 15 kms respectively. From Giulione is is easy to reach some great tourist attractions. Within 30 minutes to an hours drive are Chiusi and its Etruscan museum, Pienza, Siena, Montalcino and Montepulciano. Florence and Rome are both practical day trip possibilities with each being within an hour and a half to two hours drive. Alternatively, there is a train from Orvieto station that will take you into Rome's Termini station in the centre of Rome.
Lunch or dinners can be arranged during your stay at the villa with advanced booking. On your first evening a typical Tuscan meal can be prepared and left for you. The meal includes a starter, a pasta dish, salad and pecorino cheese, fruit or fruit salad with cantucci (local almond biscuits), bread, and a bottle of wine for every 4 people. (€20 per person).
