KNOW BEFORE YOU GO
Situated at the foot of the tiny medieval village of Orciatico and just five minutes drive from Lajatico and the Andrea Bocelli inspired Teatro del Silenzio, host to an annual concert by Andrea Bocceli, Il Cerro San Francesco is located just 20 minutes drive from the Ertuscan hill town of Volterra and only 45 minutes from Pisa.
With magnificent views to Volterra and the valley of high Valdera from its doorstep, the farming estate of Il Cerro San Francesco is surrounded by vineyards and olive grove and produces excellent Extra Virgin Olive Oil and wines that are available to purchase.
Here you can enjoy a very Italian holiday, with all the pleasures of being in a spectacular setting in the heart of Tuscany. The local village of Orciatico has a small restaurant, a few small shops and a cafe/bar. A larger supermarket along with restaurants, various shops, bank and pharmacy are located in nearby Lajatico.
Il Cerro San Francesco's location also makes it ideal as a base for exploration and sightseeing within Tuscany. On the doorstep is Rocca di Pietracassia, a ruined castle divided into two structures, the Fortress and Castle flanked by two towers. The Etruscan town of Volterra is interesting and varied with a wealth of sightseeing opportunities from a Medici fortress to the remains of the Roman theatre, as well as an excellent choice of restaurants and good shopping facilities. San Gimignano with its towers and fine medieval centre is also within easy reach and comes with a nice scenic drive. The art cities of Pisa, Siena, Florence and Lucca are easily accessible and for those who like to feel a bit of sand beneath their feet, the seaside can be reached in under an hour.
