Situated halfway between Florence and Siena and within easy reach of both, Molinuzzo must fulfil the English dream of a perfectly located traditional Tuscan farmhouse with the key Chianti towns of Radda in Chianti, Castellina in Chianti and Greve in Chianti all within easy reach.
Once a mill, the property has been converted to retain all of the character and charm of the old building. It is approached down an avenue and stands in the centre of an extensive square of land surrounded by olive groves and vinyards. Beautiful and mature gardens surround the property and have been planted with great swathes of lavender and rosemary to scent the air. A carefully tended swimming pool is surrounded by a paved terrace with tables and chairs offering the chance to dine alfresco. Another terrace by the house offers further possibilities for barbecues.
The owners enjoy the contrast between the beautiful swimming pool and the nearby natural pond fed by a stream which supports wild life. There is an orchard, full of organic apple trees, pears and pomegranates. The olives are carefully cultivated and you look out beyond them to the small village of San Donato on its hill (only a 15 minute walk across the fields) and over rolling pastoral countryside. San Donato is an attractive village, with good food shops, a nice pizzeria, and a very good restaurant.
The very large farmhouse of Molinuzzo has been divided into three. On the ground floor Casa di Joshua opens onto its own terrace and the whole of the first floor, Casa di Lisa, has been made into a superb apartment with a large furnished loggia.
Marzio's Hall: This is a place where you can taste the traditional Tuscan recipes revisited with fancy refinement by Marzio, the owner. A small and cozy room, an intimate environment illuminated by small candles. A dining table prepared with rustic elegance. Simple recipes, excellent combinations: the “fossa” pecorino cheese with a sauce of pears and typical mustards, the farro soup with small squids, the original Tuscan “fettunta” with Molinuzzo’s olive-oil, the porcini mushrooms of the woods nearby cooked “in different ways”, the “Chianina” fillet with peppers, the whole-wheat noodles fool of vegetables, the farmer's rags with ragu, and much more. Each course is served with the wine produced with the grapes of the farm house or with other Tuscan wines personally selected by Marzio. Only genuine Tuscan products are selected.Accommodation
A characteristic outside staircase leads up to a spacious open loggia and into this very roomy apartment. This is full of architectural interest, with massive beams, a fine traditional fireplace, the original mills ladder-staircase (leading to a loft) and arches dividing the huge space into separate rooms. These flow into each other through the arches giving the option of privacy or more communal living. A well-equipped, bright kitchen/breakfast room leads into a comfortable sitting room with the traditional fireplace. A second, more secluded reading room opens through an arch off a more formal dining room. Two of the attractive double bedrooms have en-suite shower rooms, and the third, furnished with charming old pieces, has an adjacent bathroom. The loggia, which runs round the corner of the house, is quite large and well equipped for living alfresco. Everything here has been arranged with taste and imagination. With central heating Casa di Lisa is very comfortable at any time of year.
