Fabulous luxury villa located in the hills above the charming market town of Greve in Chianti. La Tana rests in beautiful landscapes with hills on all sides. The house is at 620m elevation, in a temperate climate surrounded by terraces landscaped with predominantly olive trees and green woodland. The surrounding woods are oak and sweet chestnut with some mediterranean pines. The house is surrounded with borders containing typical mediterranean plants and shrubs such as rosemary, lavender, herbs and numerous wild flowers. In season, there is an abundance of butterflies. The town of Greve is about halfway between Florence and Siena and within easy reach of both. The locals call La Tana by another name... Il Paradiso.

The villa is wonderfully secluded and very private offering total peace and quiet with all modern conveniences. Recently renovated by a team of English and Italian architects, the villa sits in a beautiful Chianti valley close to the lovely historical towns of Florence, Siena, San Gimignano and Castellina-in-Chianti. La Tana is centred in a small 100-acre estate and is comprised of the large main house, an adjacent Granary that in the past was used to weather and dry the grapes for Vin Santo and similar wines, furnished terraces and a large private swimming pool.

The villa is surrounded by terraces containing mainly olive trees and woods of oak and chestnut. The pool and adjacent granary overlook these terraces on all sides. There are fantastic views across the valley to Montagliari and Panzano in Chianti, and then on to San Gimignano. There is a breakfast terrace with a view unlike any other!

La Tana has a wonderful deep swimming pool with diving board and night-lights. Nearby to the pool is a large loggia and shaded dining area, complete with a working wood-fired bread oven for all manner of outdoor cooking. The pool is surrounded by a terrace with loungers, deck chairs and umbrellas, and a magnificent hilly landscape with superb views on all sides.

Accommodation

On the ground floor is a south facing kitchen and dining room, which has its own fireplace for heat and cooking, and sound system. In the dining room there is a large table seating 12-20 people. Off of this is the spacious double height lounge with a TV and sound system. This floor also has one large double bedroom with en suite bathroom with a tub. There is also a separate bathroom and shower room that leads to the back dining terrace and pool.

La Tana has a double height sitting room at ground level that provides a comfortable and relaxing environment any time of day. There is a gallery above and a large traditional Tuscan inglenook fireplace for winter or summer fires - logs are provided. There are comfortable sofas and a satellite TV/CD/DVD system. There are beautiful views of woodland and hills through the doors leading onto the outdoor terraces.

The kitchen at La Tana is south facing and is the focal point of the house! It is fully fitted with five-hob gas cooker, electric oven, dishwasher and deluxe refrigerator and freezer with icemaker. Also included is a food processor and juicer. The kitchen surfaces are finished in elegant Carrara marble with a carved stone double sink. The kitchen is fully equipped with all pots and pans and appliances, coffee makers, serving dishes and so forth. It also has a stereo CD system. It also has its own separate fireplace that can be used for heating or in-house BBQs over a wood fire. Below is a view looking down the kitchen towards the fireplace.

There are six bedrooms at La Tana, three on the first floor in the main house. On this upper level, the two south-facing double-bedded rooms have fabulous views down the valley, with en suite shower/bathrooms. The third upstairs double bedroom has its own Tuscan style fireplace and bathroom with bath, reached through a dressing room in which there are 2 additional single beds that share this bathroom. The main house can thus accommodate up to 10 people for sleeping. On ground level, there is one further bedroom, one with an en suite bathroom with bath, and a downstairs shower room and bathroom leading to the back terraces and pool.

The Granary that is to the east of the house includes a spectacular upstairs sitting room with fabulous views to the south and east, with sound system and TV/video, and a downstairs sixth bedroom and bathroom with bath/shower. The Granary sitting room provides peace, tranquility and beautiful views at any time of day or night. With a panoramic vista from three sides of the room, the sitting room catches the breeze across the valley even on the warmest days. This room leads down spiral stairs to a bedroom and bathroom. From the downstairs bedroom there is a small terrace and path up to the pool amidst beautiful plant borders of lavender and rosemary, and a door leading onto the front terrace that has lovely sitting areas facing south down the valley. The Granary also has a computer and dialup Internet connection if required.

In Tuscany terms, it is actually quite an easy road with the last 3km being gravel road the whole way.
