Villa di Collina is a historic villa located near the village of Vicchio in the Mugello region of Tuscany, also known as “The Switzerland of Tuscany”. The villa is situated just 35 km north of Florence, in a dominant position with a magnificent view over the Tuscan countryside.The origins of Villa di Collina are thought to date back to the Renaissance years, and quite possibly the Middle Ages. The house is first shown on a 17th century map of the Mugello region; it was then much smaller and belonged to the Martellucci family. The family of the present owner inherited the property in the mid 1700′s.
The village of Vicchio (2.5 km from the villa), founded in the 14th century, is the birthplace of painters Giotto and Fra Angelico. In the Museo Comunale there are many interesting pieces dating from the Middle Ages to the Renaissance. Several restaurants in and around Vicchio (da Giotto, l’Antica Porta di Levante, da Simonetta, La Casa del Prosciutto, Il Caldetino) offer good, tasty Tuscan cooking at reasonable prices. For a more typical atmosphere try La Casa di Caccia (a bit of a drive, but it’s worth it!).
The sports centre in Vicchio has a large swimming pool and tennis courts that are open to the public. Horse riding is available nearby whilst 5 mountain bikes are available for your use at Villa di Collina. The nearby Lago di Bilancino (20km from the villa), offers water sports such as sailing and windsurfing.
In Borgo S. Lorenzo (10 km from the villa) the old centre still retains its Medieval character; the main church, although restored, dates back to the 12th century. The village of Scarperia (15 km) has been famous for centuries for its cutlery shops, here knives and all sorts of blades are still made by hand. Today Scarperia is perhaps better known for two nearby modern attractions; an excellent golf course and the motor racing circuit (Circuito del Mugello) where F1 trials are held. Further attractions are to be found near S. Piero (13 km), where you can see the fortress built by the Medici in the 16th century and the castles of Cafaggiolo and Trebbio where Florence’s leading family came from. The picturesque Designer Outlet near Barberino (20 km), with its 100 shops, is well worth a visit.
During the summer months many of the little towns and villages in Tuscany hold their fiera (fair) or sagra (feast). People gather to look at stands, eat in the open-air restaurants or dance to the sound of old time orchestras. The most important event of this kind is the ancient Fiera Calda in Vicchio, which takes place in the last week of August or the first of September. Initially a cattle and horse market, it is now a combination of commercial fair, bric-à-brac and art exhibition, horse show and other events.Like most other country houses in Tuscany, the Villa di Collina was the centre of an agricultural system as well as a summer residence. The tenant-farmers’ dwellings around the property have now been converted into vacation homes whilst still preserved, but no longer used, are the stables, work-shops, wine cellars and bakery that evoke the agricultural past of the estate.
Villa di Collina is available as a vacation rental year round and provides accommodation for 14 guests. The villa consists of: large reception hall, living room, dining room, drawing room, spacious country kitchen, 7 bedrooms, 6 bathrooms, as well as a walled-in garden, a panoramic terrace with outstanding views and a swimming pool for the exclusive use of guests.
The villa's location allows easy day trips to many popular destinations in Tuscany such as Florence (35 km), Arezzo and S. Gimignano (70 km) Siena (80 km), Pisa and Lucca (90 km). Rome is only 3 hours away, by motorway. Many destinations can also be reached by train from the station of Vicchio through Florence.

The villa, on two levels, comfortably furnished with many original antiques, consists of:
Ground Floor: Independent entrance. Entrance hall. Large fully equipped kitchen with range style oven and hob, dishwasher and washing machine. Formal dining room. Living room with TV. Three double bedrooms. Two bathrooms, one with shower, one with tub and shower.
Upper Floor: Drawing room with TV. Four double bedrooms all with ensuite bathrooms (1 with tub, 3 with shower).
This villa includes Satellite tv, Free Internet access 24h, central heating, telephone, 2 TVs, fully equipped kitchen including dishwasher and washing machine. Fax is available on request. Cleaning and/or cooking help are available at an additional fee.

Security Deposit
On arrival you will be asked for a security deposit of €1000, payable in cash. The security deposit will be returned to you at the end of your rental.
Arrival Times
Arrivals expected between 16.00 - 19.00 hrs. If you are going to be late, you MUST advise us or the owner/keyholder in advance. Property to be vacated no later than 10.00am on day of departure.
