The villa Frantoio is located in the old medieval village of Orciatico, in the Commune of Lajatico (Pisa). The village was in the past a langobard castle, part of the defence system protecting the western part of Tuscany and is just one such village affording spectacular views of the archetypal Tuscan landscape. From this point the main art towns of Tuscany, Florence, Pisa and Lucca are all within easy reach. Under an hours drive will take you to Siena, which rivals Florence in musical, artistic and historic interest, while outdoing it with the Palio in July and again in August. Colle di Val d'Elsa, birthplace of Arnlfo di Cambrio who built the Palazzo Vecchio in Florence, is worth a visit, it has a fine medieval centro storico and is also noted for some of Italy's finest crystal.
Frantoio is a prestigious ancient oil pressing house situated in the heart of themedieval village, in the country land of Volterra, andwith a magnificent view of Volterra and the beautiful valley of highValdera. The building, dating from the sixth century, has been painstakingly restored to create a house of character and comfort whilst the original mill stones and olive press has been incorporated into the heart of the house and act as a fascinating reminder as to the true identity of this building.
Here you can enjoy a very Italian holiday, with all the pleasures of ahome in a wonderfully Italian medieval village. A typically Tuscanand very convenient little restaurant situated just two minutes walkfrom the house and a few traditional shops are dotted about the village.
The garden is laid out to the read of the property and makes an ideal setting for those who enjoyalfresco dining and barbecues. To the end of the garden are a couple of steps down into a walled garden where the swimming pool is situated. A raised panoramic terrace overlooks the pool and the countryside beyond the garden.
Frantoio's location makes it ideal for exploration andsightseeing, with the art cities of Pisa, Siena, Florence and Lucca allwithin an hours drive. For those who like to feel some sand beneaththeir feet, some wonderful beaches can be reached in under an hour.Closer to home you have, of course, the wonderful town of Volterra withan excellent choice of restaurants and some very good shoppingfacilities.
