Villa Girasoli is one of those lovely villas that feels more like a home away from home than a holiday villa. Built in 1890, it is set on a hill overlooking the valley with views through to the medieval village of Torri in Sabina. The villa is surrounded by 4 acres of land consisting primarily of olive groves, fruit and lemon trees. The garden grounds where the pool is situated are mainly laid to lawn with mature trees and shrubs. A wide sunny furnished terrace with BBQ and a covered loggia with easy chairs are perfect for alfresco dining and relaxing with a glass of wine on those warm summer evenings. The charm of this relatively unknown area, with its olive groves and vineyards and its proximity to the medieval and renaissance delights of Italy, makes it a wonderful place for a perfectly relaxing and cultural holiday. In this idyllic location you are within easy reach of the hill towns of Etruria, Umbria and southern Tuscany. Within about a half hours drive are the Sanctuary of Vescovio, the Abbey of Farfa, the Church of S. Andrea in Flumine and the Church of S.Elia (Nepi). The natural reserves of Tevere-Farfa, Monte Soratte, Monte Rufeno, Selva dell'Amone and the WWF Oasis of Pian S. Angelo and Alviano with Monti Reatini are within easy reach and offer bird-watching opportunities and hiking.
Other wonders for the interested and independent traveller include the Etruscan Necropolis around Viterbo, the Marmore Falls, the Monster park of Bomarzo, the cities of Viterbo (with its thermal baths), Tuscania and Civita di Bagnoreggio. The lakes of Bolsena, Vico, Martignano and Bracciano and the cities of Todi, Spoleto, Narni and Orvieto are about an hours drive. Also within easy reach for day trips are Perugia, Arezzo and Siena.
A convenient commuter train from Rome to Poggio Mirteto or Stimigliano station takes 45 minutes and departs every hour.Accommodation
The villa is approached through electric gates from a white road that wends its way through the olive groves up to the house. It is surrounded by olive trees and wonderful views of the surrounding countryside.
Ground floor - Two entrances, one into the main hall and the other into the kitchen.
A wide terrace runs along the entire length of the house and incorporates a part covered furnished loggia. From here is a doorway into a large breakfasting kitchen with triple aspect window overlooking the terrace and garden. The kitchen is well equipped with dishwasher, oven and gas hob, fridge/freezer, microwave oven, toaster, pine dresser, table and chairs, central island and radio casette.
From the kitchen you enter into a large dining room with two sets of french doors to the terrace, tv/snug area, door to inner hallway with stairs to first floor and double glass doors to main entrance hall.
Large entrance hall with double doors to sitting room. From this hall there is also access to a bathroom with bath and shower. Door to terrace.
The sitting room is spacious, comfortable and airy with open fireplace, tv, piano and hi-fi. A large picture window overlooks the terrace and pool. From the sitting room are stairs to the first floor master bedroom.
First floor
The first floor bedrooms and bathrooms can be accessed from the sitting room or the dining room so the house divides neatly in order to retain the privacy in the master bedroom.
The master bedroom, with four poster bed, has been built to take advantage of the open space and incorporates a study area, en-suite bathroom with walk in 'rain' shower, and galleried styling with heavily beamed ceilings and two picture windows with marvellous views. From the en-suite bathroom is another doorway into a little sitting room which can be used as a single bedroom, this room leads into the 'yellow' bedroom... however, all of the upstairs rooms can also be accessed from the staircase located off the dining room so you don't have to forgo privacy in the master bedroom if you keep the second bathroom door locked!
From the dining room is a doorway to an inner hallway with staircase to the first floor bedrooms. Here there is also an understair cupboard where you'll find an iron and ironing board. At the top of the stairs you come onto a landing with chest of drawers and access to two twin bedrooms and a bathroom with walk in shower. In the 'yellow' bedroom is a doorway to the little sitting/dressing room mentioned earlier.
All of the bedrooms take advantage of the marvellous views you have over Torri and the surrounding countryside. All windows are fitted with fly-screens.
Grounds
Large patio in front of the kitchen overlooks the swimming pool along with olive groves set in grounds of around 4 acres. Garden furniture, large umbrella and lighting for evening meals. The swimming pool is surrounded by garden and a grapevine pergola makes an attractive area for lunches and evening meals. Outdoor BBQ Weber grill.
