The Mugello area, home of ancient Medici splendours, offers the vestiges of great artists and magnificent crafts. Meadows and woods of oak, chestnut and pine, along with ancient stone buildings recall the peasant civilization. Large natural springs cross fields and lawns, and settle in nearby lakes. Long walks into the shady woods, through clearings and along paths, lead you to cast a glance at the vastness of untouched nature. Here in this hilly paradise is Collefertile, a property of 360 hectares of unspoiled woods and meadows with an ancient stone country house now converted to a high calibre country retreat. The interior of the farm with its terracotta floors and solid walnut antique style furniture adds to the sense of serenity and wellbeing. The bedrooms are all nicely decorated and all have en-suite or private bathrooms, air-conditioning and mini-bar. A sitting room for use by guests provides both a meeting place and a comfortable place to relax. Guests preferring a little more privacy can opt for a suite of rooms, comprising bedroom with en-suite bathroom and private sitting room. Breakfast is served in the restaurant, which is also open for lunches and dinners. The restaurant specialises in using traditional cooking methods such as wood roasting ovens, spit roasts and charcoal grills, to create flavours and aromas that change according to the season.
