La Chiocciola is extremely well placed for excursions, with Florence so accessible and the Chianti region, San Gimignano, Siena, Lake Trasimeno and Umbria all within easy reach by train or car (nearest Autostrada junction 7 km). Yet it has the advantage of not being directly on the main tourist beat. Bagno a Ripoli, on the way to Florence, is a very stylish little town and completely untouristy. The countryside is enchanting, and soon rural. You can enjoy the peace and harmony of La Chiocciola's surroundings, with the fine woods, olive groves, gardens, swimming pool, and extensive views, or take advantage of the wide range of cultural opportunities. This very elegant 18th century villa, built originally by a powerful Florentine family, the Altoviti, was bought from them by the present owner's father and is now used as their country house. The family take great pride in its finely wooded grounds, and the garden with its fine avenue of centuries-old cypresses.The former coach house has been converted into two traditional country style cottages, each with their own private garden as well as the use of the main gardens. The excellent swimming pool sits back from the houses in an elevated position amid landscaped grounds with views over the surrounding coutryside. The pool is shared between the two properties and the owners themselves, making this an ideal place for people looking to be a little more independent and private. The nearby sports centre with a small cafe', tennis club and public swimming pool will appeal to children and teenagers who may be in search of a little more activity. More adventurous teenagers can avail themselves of the opportunity to take the bus into Florence for a day's shopping or sightseeing. Rignano sull'Arno provides for all daily needs, with a bank, a trattoria and food shops, while Troghi has a useful general store. Impruneta has a wonderful October fair - just right for half-term! - and it is an iteresting town with some fine buildings. For two families holidaying together or larger groups looking for comfortable accommodation in a rural setting and near to private facilities, renting both Scuderia and Guardia may provide the perfect solution.

All the rooms, except the kitchen, open off the hall. Sitting room with sofa-bed. Dining room with a stone fireplace in the corner. Compact but well-appointed kitchen. Two twin bedrooms. Large bathroom. Private garden with beautiful mature trees, handsome terracotta pots and ample garden furniture.
