Fabulous period villa with private swimming pool and extensive garden grounds commanding panoramic views of the surrounding countryside including Lungo and Ripasottile lakes nature reserves. Casa Airone is located in the Sabine province of Rieti, an oasis of wild beauty that has kept itself intact over the centuries. The villages of Poggio Bustone and Borgo San Pietro are within a few kilometres and there are several excellent restaurants and trattorias within easy reach.

From the Franciscan Sanctuaries filled with mysticism, to the castles and villages that tell of their ancient cultural heritage and traditions, to the boundless expanse of olive groves, green hills, limpid rivers and silver lakes: this is the province of Rieti... The area itself is a feast of sightseeing and cultural opportunty. The medieval walled town of Rieti, with with its palaces and churches and a good choice of shopping, bars and restaurants is 10km from the villa. Other places of interest include the Farfa Abbey, the Franciscan Sanctuaries in Rieti, the Marmore Falls and Lake Piediluco, to name but a few. Of course, Rome must be on the agenda for a day trip or two along with the Umbrian towns of Spoleto and Assisi.

Piediluco, a small and very pretty lakeside town with some water sports available in the height of the season, is just 15km. The back of the village is dominated by the 11th century, partially ruined, Castle that remains proud and impressive. Its strategic position often made it the object of disputes between the lords of the adjacent towns. The lake takes its name from the town and is so irregular in shape that it could be an Alpine lake. The lake is very pretty and surrounded by woodland and hills of which, 'Echo Mountain' is most distinctive because its shape resembles a large cone and from here you are able to get a perfect echo. The lake, where canoeing displays on a world-class level take place, is also a much frequented tourist resort, and offers possibilities for various water sports. Every year, around the last week in June/first week in July, the 'Festa delle Acque' (Feast of the Waters), takes place. Of ancient origin, the festival includes a nighttime procession of decorated and illuminated boats, fire-works, concerts of classical music and theater spectacles.

Along with the obvious lure of the warmer months, the skiing season in the nearby Terminillo mountains that runs from December to March makes Casa Airone an ideal property for winter rentals too!
